Hi, I’m Trista Slowik, RN, MSN, C-EFM, CBC—a nurse, educator, and maternal–child health advocate who believes in improving perinatal outcomes through revolutionary leadership, responsible innovation, and meaningful advocacy.
I was recently selected as a 2026–2027 AWHONN Emerging Leader, which feels like an incredible next step in the work I care about most: supporting safer birth, empowering nurses, and shaping the future of maternal health with both courage and integrity.
Today, I blend clinical experience, technology expertise, and global health leadership in ways that allow me to work across many different spaces. In my role as a Clinical Engagement Specialist at PeriGen, I sit at the intersection of frontline care and AI-enabled fetal surveillance tools. I help ensure that emerging technologies are safe, ethical, clinically relevant, and truly supportive of the nurses and providers who rely on them.
I also run Slowik Healthcare Consulting, LLC, where I serve as a legal nurse consultant and expert witness specializing in maternal–child health cases. I approach every case with the mindset of a clinician, an ethicist, and a patient safety advocate.
My leadership work extends globally as well. I currently serve as President of the Board for World’s Children, a nonprofit supporting vulnerable children across India, Kenya, Ukraine, Mexico, Tanzania, and Zambia. I previously served with MamaBaby Haiti and remain deeply committed to global maternal health, midwifery education, and strengthening community-based care systems.
In addition to global maternal-child health work, I’m an active member of the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch. Rotary gives me a local space to live out the same values I bring to my clinical and global work—service, community partnership, and showing up for people in tangible ways. I help organize service projects, fundraising initiatives, and maternal-child health outreach, connecting local action with global impact.
Across all of these roles, I’m driven by the same core values: evidence-based practice, informed consent, health equity, and the belief that every mother and baby deserves safe, respectful care.
After 16 years in perinatal nursing—across labor and delivery, obstetric emergencies, fetal monitoring instruction, neonatal resuscitation, and clinical education, I’ve learned that real change requires both heart and strategy. It requires collaboration across disciplines, honest conversations, and innovation that always keeps patients at the center.
I communicate openly, teach with clarity, and show up with an unwavering commitment to helping others navigate complex decisions, whether at the bedside, in a boardroom, or inside a tech company shaping the future of perinatal care.
If you’re passionate about maternal health, safe and physiological birth, empowered decision-making, and informed consent, you’re in the right place, because I’m deeply passionate about all of that too. I care about honoring the birthing process, supporting people with dignity and autonomy, and helping bedside nurses step confidently into their role as advocates for every patient, every time. That individual, moment-to-moment advocacy is where real change begins, and it’s the work that inspires me every single day.
